Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Submission Rules:

Manuscripts can be written in Portuguese or in English. When translated into English, it is suggested that the text should be revised by someone who has English as their first language, preferably a researcher in the field. The editorial board may request the proofreading for publication of the manuscript.

1.1. Preparation of the manuscript: When preparing the manuscript, authors must follow the APA (American Psychological Association, 7th Edition) citation and referencing rules. The manuscript must not contain information regarding the identity of the authors, and any information that can identify them, must be omitted or underlined in red, to allow for anonymous review.

1.2. Identification page. Each submission must be accompanied by an identification page, with the following information: type of work (type of study), total number of words (including tables, figures and references), title of the work (maximum of 200 characters) and names, institutions, phone number and e-mail of the authors (specifying the author and the e-mail address to which all correspondence should be sent). This page must also contain the declaration of non-conflict of interest by the authors, the originality and authorship of the data presented. Authors should consider the template provided (in English or Portuguese).

1.3. Structure and extent. Manuscripts related to Original Investigations and Case Studies must not exceed 8,000 words, including title, abstract, body text, tables, figures and references. Review manuscripts may have a maximum length of 10,000 words and Letters to the Editor should not exceed 1,500 words, containing a maximum of 10 references. All manuscripts must be submitted using the template provided for submission of the text (in English or Portuguese). The article must respect the following order: title, abstract and keywords, main text, acknowledgments, conflict of interest, references and attachments (if applicable). Tables and figures must be placed in the text on the site where they will be published. The manuscript must include the continuous numbering of the pages and lines. The text must be written in Font Calibri 11, spacing 1.15, the titles must be in Fonte Calibri 12, Bold, and the margins must be 2.5 cm.

Title. Concise and informative. Titles are often used in information retrieval systems. Whenever possible, avoid abbreviations and formulas.

Abstract. The summary should include the most important results that support the conclusions of the work. It should have a maximum of 250 words and be written in Portuguese and English. 3 to 5 keywords must be included and abbreviations must not be used.

Body text. Manuscripts must be included in the model for submitting articles, respecting APA standards (7th Edition). Articles that do not respect these rules will not be accepted. The structure of the body of the text must contain the following topics, except in special cases: Introduction (including objectives); Materials and methods; Results; Discussion and Conclusion.

Acknowledgements / Financial support. The authors should mention the acknowledgments for the publication, as well as any financial support.

References. References must be prepared in accordance with APA standards (7th Edition).

Figures. Figures and illustrations can be used when they help to better understand the text. Figures should be numbered in Indo-Arabic numbers, in the sequence in which they appear in the text (eg: Figure 1, Figure 2), and placed in the body of the text. Figures and illustrations must be submitted with excellent graphic quality, with a resolution of 300 dpi, so that they can be reproduced or reduced in their dimensions. Photos of equipment or subjects should be avoided; in case there is a need to do so, the anonymity of the participant must be guaranteed.

Tables. Tables should be used to present the main results of the investigation, accompanied by a short title. They must be numbered in Indo-Arabic numbering, in the sequence in which they appear in the text (eg, Chart 1, Chart 2), and placed in the body of the text. The information presented in the tables should not duplicate the text.

1.4. Verification of statistics and report of findings. The reporting of results must follow the APA guidelines (eg formatting tables, number of decimal units, values of interaction effects), always include ‘effect sizes’ and sufficient information for meta-analyzes. Experimental and intervention designs must include a priori power calculations for the desired sample sizes, as well as the interaction effects. The manuscript can be returned to the authors if these procedures are not followed.

1.5 The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing. Authors should disclose in their manuscript the use of AI and AI-assisted technologies and a statement will appear in the published work. Declaring the use of these technologies supports transparency and trust between authors, readers, reviewers, editors and contributors and facilitates compliance with the terms of use of the relevant tool or technology. Authors should not list AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author, nor cite AI as an author.

2. Review Process:

All manuscripts submitted to Germinare are initially subjected to an originality check using specialized software. Then, still in a first phase, they will be evaluated by an editor, with the initial acceptance criteria being in compliance with the publication rules and the framework within the scope of the journal. After this analysis, if it is considered ‘accepted for review’, the article will be evaluated by two independent experts, in the form of ‘double blind’ analysis. If the reviewers propose changes, the authors must redo and / or change the manuscript, within 15 working days, based on the reviewers' recommendations and suggestions. Then, they must return the manuscript for a second analysis, so that it is possible to issue the final opinion (‘acceptance’ or ‘rejection’).

3. Submission of manuscripts:

Articles must be submitted through the Journal website.

The documents to be submitted are: a) 2 files without identification containing the manuscript, one in Microsoft Word text format (* .docx) and the other in pdf; and b) 1 file containing the identification page with the information described in point 1.2.
