Abstract

The topics covered were nursing communication and nursing student learning in a clinical context, along with the contingencies of the Covid 19 Pandemic. The objectives were: to identify situations that hinder the communication of nursing students with users in the context of internship; to know what feelings these situations evoke in students and to verify how they act to overcome such difficulties. A descriptive study with a qualitative approach was carried out; the field diaries of ten students were analyzed, who carried out participant observation of their own communications and recorded them. The data obtained therefrom was treated through content analysis. The results were presented in three categories: Difficulties of communication due to the use of personal protection equipment; Feelings of insecurity and fear and therapeutic communication techniques and principles of congruent communication as means to overcome difficulties. The difficulties of communication due to the use of personal protection equipment were resolved by the students using the principles of therapeutic communication, including empathy, trust, availability and respect for the individuality of each one. The feelings of fear and uncertainty reported were not directly related to these difficulties of communication due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, but rather due to feeling insecure while carrying out some nursing interventions in a real context. This fact reinforces the need for the pedagogical team to carry out personalized monitoring, implementing teaching and assessment strategies that consider these feelings, present in clinical teaching during the Pandemic period or outside of it.
