Abstract
Framework:
Supervision can be a key means for the development and promotion of a more meaningful Nursing for people, with a view to promoting the transition to the role of family caregiver.
Goals:
Reflect on the contribution of Supervision in the transition process to the role of family caregiver, and its contribution to the development of disciplinary knowledge in Nursing.
Methods:
The methodology used was a case study, in which the Proctor Supervision Model was implemented.
Results:
The transition to the role of family caregiver took place in 3 phases; in a first phase, the caregiver reported knowledge needs about what to do and how to do it; in a second phase, it showed intricate concerns about the exercise of caring; and in a third moment, the need for support and emotional support is expressed. In view of this evidence, the "Supervision Alliance Model" was implemented, in which the functions are patented: formative, normative and support (Proctor, 2001), which responded to the demands of the family caregiver, allowing a fluid and healthy transition in the assumption of the role of taking care of someone.
Conclusions:
This case study allowed the inference of the importance of caring for those who care, a crucial premise in the safety, quality and continuity of care, assuming supervision as a fundamental and basic response to this appreciation and dignification of family caregivers.
