Abstract
AbstractBackground: Nowadays, different leadership styles are created, thus this work discusses this theme and brings which are the essential characteristics for leadership in nursing. Objective: To identify in the scientific literature the difficulties faced by nurses in developing leadership competence in health services. Method: a literature review was conducted through the Virtual Health Library and articles indexed in the LILACS and SCIELO databases were included, in the period from March to August 2021. Results and Discussion: a total of 151 articles were found using the health descriptors "Leadership", "nursing" and "difficulties" of which 14 articles were selected after inclusion criteria. The study showed four main difficulties that were described as categories: conflicts arising from interpersonal relationships, overload and working conditions, devaluation and lack of professional recognition, deficit in academic training on the teaching of leadership and professional inexperience. Conclusion: the study identified the difficulties and necessary skills that nurses need to develop in their careers and how they affect the competence to lead and the exercise of their functions. As a strategy, we see the need for educational institutions and companies to develop these competencies in those entering the job market and contribute to the formation of leaders with multi-managerial competencies. This study had as a limiting factor the low number of articles that addressed the theme and the proposed objective, highlighting a lack of studies on the subject in the nursing field.
